Reactive barks, anxious separation anxiety. Just a few a day will help.

• Venison - Venison is protein-rich and nutritionally wholesome. It is a good source of iron and B vitamins including B6 and B12. • Mulberry - Mulberry is rich in iron and vitamin C, an antioxidant, which can help support the immune system. • More energy • Fewer and smaller stools • Healthier skin • Shinier coat • Less shedding • Better breath • Reduces itching and licking • Our Food is Grain & Gluten Free
If you are on your third elimination diet and running out of proteins your sausage has not already met, start here.
Venison is genuinely novel in this market. Most dogs arrive having eaten chicken, beef and lamb for years, which is precisely why those three are the usual suspects when something stops agreeing with them. A protein the immune system has never been introduced to has nothing to recognise. Single source, so there is no second meat quietly in the mix undoing the point of the exercise, and no grain or wheat either.

“Wolfgang was becoming very fussy with other foods, but as soon as we switched him to Sausage Dog Sanctuary he has loved every breakfast / dinner time.”

If you have not yet ruled out the everyday proteins, it is worth working through those first.
Grated cheese, a bit of chicken, standing over them while it goes cold. You have tried raw, subscriptions and the vet's recommendation, and you are still doctoring every meal.
2
Swap to freshly prepared meat
Not meat meal, rendered down and rebuilt. Freshly prepared meat, gently cooked at 82 degrees so it still smells like food. Smell is what gets a bored sausage back to the bowl.
3
Empty bowl, every meal
They wolf it down, lick the bowl clean and come running at teatime. That is the whole point.
The fussy test
Made for the sausage who refuses everything
Of the 1,447 reviews owners have left on our food, the single most common thing they tell us is that their fussy sausage finally ate. Not that it is nutritious. That the bowl went empty.
“Finally after 9 years I have found a food that my dog will eat”

Why it works
Most premium food is not as fresh as it sounds
There is a difference between freshly prepared meat and meat meal, and it is the difference a fussy dog can smell. Ours is a minimum 35% freshly prepared, gently cooked at 82 degrees to protect the protein rather than blasted at high heat. Turn over a bag of one of the big premium brands and you will often find fresh meat in the low teens, with the rest made up from lentils, peas and chickpeas. That is the number worth comparing.
“The only dry biscuit my fussy sausage will eat”

What happens next
The coat other people comment on
Once they are eating properly, owners tell us the coat is the first thing that changes. It is the second most mentioned thing in our food reviews, and often it is somebody else who spots it first.
“Everyone comments on how shiny his coat is”

Our hotel for sausage dogs, The Sausage Dog Sanctuary. Seven years of working out what this breed will actually eat.
Loves his new food! So glad I swapped over his coat is so much healthier and most importantly enjoys his meals so much more defiantly be staying with this brand
GAME CHANGER!!
Lola stopped eating her food or would just eat one mouthful a day.
We gave this food a try and WOW she eats two bowls a day.. all in one go! Thank you SDS
Frank and Olive tucking in to the venison . They have this and the turkey superfood . After being a good eater as a pup at around 7 months Frank became fussy and a poor eater . After a few months success on raw he became picky again .Tried sausage sanctuary food and Frank and Olive liked it ! Took a bit of persistence and working out what they liked ! Now we add a splash of hot water and a bit of chicken or beef on top . I feel better knowing they are getting all the nutrients they need .
I was looking for an alternative food for my 5 Dachshunds and read all the reviews. They all seem to be enjoying the food and their is less waste on the way out. Overall we are pleased with the food
Dennis is always SO excited when the postman arrives, but became even more 'exercised' when I brought the parcel into the living room; this was his response to the emptied bag :-D He devours the kibble (even as 'treats'), and we have had no upset tummies, and his skin has cleared - thank you!!
Frenchie our gorgeous sausage girl loves this food and it’s been amazing for her coat and general health! Such an amazing product and always Reccomended it to others!!
I really like to buy this quality food for my dachshund Penelope. I usually give her 50g per meal and add additional raw veg to her bowl, it’s all she needs along with water to drink. She is very content, healthy and has a beautiful glossy coat that people often comment on. The website is easy to use and delivery is always at the date and time stated.
Peggy loves all the flavours of the sausage dog food sanctuary! But definitely this one. We will continue to purchase this brand as Peggy thoroughly enjoys her meals.
We love the range of different flavours of food, the boys love it, especially ralph who is normally very picky with his food always eats every last bit which is amazing.
We have also been able to get Miller loosing weight on the clear guidelines which he looks so much better and happier for!
We think your food and service is absolutely fantastic. Rupert our red dapple is our baby and always has the very best. He has always loved his food however, when we bought your venison and mulberry kibbles, Ruperts behaviour changed. He gets SO excited for tea time, he is more calmer and his toileting arrangement is fantastic (previously had very sloppy poo). Your food should be widely recognised.. We will be making our next order tomorrow, we can't thank you enough for making this food! Kind regards Chelsea, Jess and Rupert
Our first order. Amazing food, our little one Rolo loves it too... Definitely will be buying again. I also ordered before a discount code was added & I just made a comment about missing the code & I got a refund for the difference... wasn’t expecting that!! Amazing service.. Keep up the great work!! 🐾
The only dried dog food my dog will happily eat and she’s a spaniel ! Her best friend is a dachshund and that’s how we knew about Sausage Sanctuary. Best of all though it’s good for her tummy and stool consistency

We've got answers!
Got Questions?
It is the first thing owners ask, so here is the honest answer. Most fussy sausages do take to it. Some do not.
That is exactly why we sell every recipe in a 2kg bag. Start there rather than a 12kg, so if yours is one of the ones who says no, you have spent a few pounds finding out instead of filling a cupboard. If the first protein does not land, try a different one. Owners often tell us the third flavour was the one.
On selected recipes, yes. Look for Small Kibble in the product name. Those are made small from the start for a dachshund jaw, rather than being a shrunk-down version of a bigger dog's food.
The rest of the range is a standard kibble size. If your sausage struggles to pick pieces up, or gives up chewing partway through a bowl, start with one of the Small Kibble recipes.
Slowly. Mix a quarter of the new food with three quarters of the old for two or three days, then move to half and half, then three quarters, then all new. Give it about a week in total.
Going straight to 100% on day one is the most common cause of loose stools during a switch, and it is easily avoided.
If you have no particular issue to work around, chicken or lamb are the usual starting points and the two most bought.
If your sausage has a sensitive stomach, owners tend to do well starting on a fish recipe. If they are carrying a bit of extra weight, look at the Light range. If they are under a year, start on a Puppy recipe.
No. You can buy a one-off bag any time and never hear from us about it again.
A subscription is there if you want it, mostly so you are not reordering manually every few weeks. You can pause or cancel it yourself whenever you like.
It depends on the size of your sausage and how much they are fed, but as a rough guide a 2kg bag will last a typical mini dachshund around three to four weeks, and a standard around two.
Feeding guidelines are printed on every bag, and there is a feeding calculator on the site if you would rather work it out by weight.
