Chicken is the protein most fussy sausages will still accept after they have gone off everything else, which is why it is where we tell people to start. It is a single named meat with no second protein hiding in the mix, and the whole recipe is built for a dachshund: a dachshund burns more energy per kilo than a big dog but has a much smaller stomach, so every mouthful has to carry more. That is the bit standard adult food gets wrong, and it is usually why a dachshund grazes and wanders off.

Grated cheese, a bit of chicken, standing over them while it goes cold. You have tried raw, subscriptions and the vet's recommendation, and you are still doctoring every meal.

There is a difference between freshly prepared meat and meat meal, and it is the difference a fussy dog can smell. Ours is a minimum 35% freshly prepared, gently cooked at 82 degrees to protect the protein rather than blasted at high heat. Turn over a bag of one of the big premium brands and you will often find fresh meat in the low teens, with the rest made up from lentils, peas and chickpeas. That is the number worth comparing.

Difficult to tell which are Rocket’s favourite flavours because the end result is always the same. We swap between flavours to give him variety but no matter what, he’s a happy sausage.

Rocket loves the small kibble - basically any flavour but he really likes chicken. And he’s not keen on anybody or anything getting too close in case they steal any. As shown with the glare he’s giving out 😠

My FUSSY girl turned her nose up all well-known dog food brands and we were swapping every month or so. Bowls were left half eaten and she wasn’t happy. However this kibble is perfect! The trial pack helped us realise she would demolish the chicken small kibble size. On our second 6kg bag and she still loves it! Thank goodness we found it ☺️ *I also have a second sausage dog that loves it, but she also eats mud, so isn’t a good judge of food. At least I know she is getting her daily nutrients and both dogs are healthy and happy

Brilliant food all four of my dogs can’t get enough
My dachshund Larry has always been a fussy eater. He was on raw when I got him as a puppy and he was never happy. I tried allsorts of other subscriptions and dry kibble but he wouldn't eat properly. Larry also has doggy OCD and would only eat if he had a tennis ball next to him. feeding was an unpleasant experience for him and we have tried many tactic to help him eat and overcome his obsession. Nothing worked. Until - I tried him with sausage dog sanctuary food. He absolutely loves it, and although he still has his ball next to him he is not distracted and eats his meal down in one. I have never seen him eat like this and he is 3. We changed to sausage sanctuary food some months ago and we would never go back! So much so our new puppy Margot is now on the puppy version. Best food ever!!!

My dachshund Betty is 3 years old and is very fussy with her food. We tried numerous kinds of dog food for her. She would eat it for a couple of weeks any then would refuse to eat it. Sausage sanctuary is the only food she continues to eat. She likes the small kibble best. I highly recommend this food for your doxies.

It is the first thing owners ask, so here is the honest answer. Most fussy sausages do take to it. Some do not.
That is exactly why we sell every recipe in a 2kg bag. Start there rather than a 12kg, so if yours is one of the ones who says no, you have spent a few pounds finding out instead of filling a cupboard. If the first protein does not land, try a different one. Owners often tell us the third flavour was the one.
On selected recipes, yes. Look for Small Kibble in the product name. Those are made small from the start for a dachshund jaw, rather than being a shrunk-down version of a bigger dog's food.
The rest of the range is a standard kibble size. If your sausage struggles to pick pieces up, or gives up chewing partway through a bowl, start with one of the Small Kibble recipes.
Slowly. Mix a quarter of the new food with three quarters of the old for two or three days, then move to half and half, then three quarters, then all new. Give it about a week in total.
Going straight to 100% on day one is the most common cause of loose stools during a switch, and it is easily avoided.
If you have no particular issue to work around, chicken or lamb are the usual starting points and the two most bought.
If your sausage has a sensitive stomach, owners tend to do well starting on a fish recipe. If they are carrying a bit of extra weight, look at the Light range. If they are under a year, start on a Puppy recipe.
No. You can buy a one-off bag any time and never hear from us about it again.
A subscription is there if you want it, mostly so you are not reordering manually every few weeks. You can pause or cancel it yourself whenever you like.
It depends on the size of your sausage and how much they are fed, but as a rough guide a 2kg bag will last a typical mini dachshund around three to four weeks, and a standard around two.
